Went to get my Jeep Wrangler Unlimited inspected today for annual safety check. The inspector initially said I needed doors to pass. I then showed him the Hawaii Dept of Transportation vehicle inspector's guide that explicitly states you do not need doors if vehicle comes with easily removable doors. The manual explicitly, in black and white, states Jeeps are exempt from door requirement. He said, "I have that on my iPad" to which I replied, "it says right here" and showed him PDF file of DOT Inspector's Manual. He still refused. I then called Flagship in Wahiawa and spoke with inspector on duty. He told me and the inspector I had disagreement with that no, you do not need the doors to pass inspection and that if I brought vehicle to Wahiawa he would not fail me for having no doors. Still, the inspector (also claimed to be owner) stated he was afraid of liability and losing his license if he passed me because of the doors and refused. He then asked me to speak to the other inspector on duty. I showed that inspector the PDF and he agreed with me that it clearly states Jeeps do not require doors. That inspector said he would speak with the manager/inspector. 15 min later he (manager/inspector) comes to counter without saying a word to me and gives cashier a FAIL inspection 30 day slip. The reason for fail? "Door latches"....not "doors" or "no doors on vehicle per DOT regulation.

Do not get your vehicle inspected here if you own a Jeep Wrangler. The owner/manager/inspector does not even comprehend the DOT's own manual for inspectors.
Horrible experience. Took both my cars here for oil changes and a safety inspection. Wife's car was failed immediately because of her stickers. This was the same place that passed her a year ago with the same thing. The guy told her he didn't like the stickers and to remove them all. Guess he doesn't like getting paid for 5 minutes of work they take.
